With a 17-0 vote on Monday, the FDA's Dermatologic and Ophthalmic Drugs Advisory Committee recommended approval for an injectable drug to reduce submental fat, better known as double chin.
The drug destroys fat cell membranes at the injection site. It is structurally identical to endogenous deoxycholic acid but is a new molecular entity as far as FDA regulation is concerned, the agency said.
