Steve Fossett är en duktig pilot och äventyrare. Har flugit runt jorden flera gånger.

Kort presentation från Wikipedia: James Stephen Fossett (born April 22, 1944) is an American aviator, sailor and adventurer known for his appetite for setting world records. Fossett, who made his fortune in the financial services industry, is best known for his five world record nonstop circumnavigations of the Earth: as a long-distance solo balloonist, as a sailor, and as a solo airplane pilot. A fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and The Explorers Club, Fossett has set 116 records in five different sports, 60 of which still stand.

3 september flög han hemifrån ut i Nevadaöknen och har inte setts till sen dess.

A Cook County probate judge on Friday declared wealthy Chicago adventurer Steve Fossett legally dead almost half a year after a plane he piloted disappeared over the Nevada desert.

After a two-hour hearing, Circuit Judge Jeffrey Malak agreed with witnesses who said Fossett had no reason to disappear intentionally and probably died Sept. 3, the day he disappeared.

"I believe the evidence is more than sufficient," he said.

Fossett's wife, Peggy, and lawyers for his estate filed a petition in November seeking to have him declared dead. No one opposed the request.

Because Fossett's body hasn't been found, his wife's lawyers presented evidence to overcome the legal rule that people missing for fewer than seven years are presumed to be alive.

A weathered sweat shirt, cash and a pilot's certificate with Fossett's name were found Tuesday near Mammoth Lakes, police Chief Randy Schienle said. The certificate did not have a photo, he said.

"We're not certain that it belongs to Steve Fossett, but it certainly has his name on the ID," Schienle said.
