Intressant teori. Det kan du mycket väl ha rätt i. Men samtidigt borde man sätta fart på en hel del processer om man använder sina muskler.

Som jag förstått saken vill man få lite fart på kroppen emellanåt för att rensa ut skräp som bildas annars. Huruvida man gör det genom att stå, gå, göra armhävningar, eller något annat borde vara underordnat.

Men om någon har mer information om det finns undersökt hur mycket rörelse som krävs för att få effekt så vore det välkommet. Det kan ju vara så att det är väldigt lite som krävs egentligen. - och att du kan fortsätta med arbetet eller mötet medan du samtidigt gör någon övning som får sig att må bättre också.

Det är ju ett lite väl korkat påstående. Jag vågar nog påstå att stillasittande överlag inte alls kommer sig av lättja utan av hårt arbete inom en växande sektor av pappers och datorrelaterat arbete i samhället.

Fet blir man naturligtvis inte heller om man gör av med kalorierna. Själva problemet består ju i att man kan träna väldigt ambitiöst på fritiden, men att det inte räcker om man har fel sorts jobb.

To explore the effects of breaking up prolonged sitting time with standing or light-intensity walking on a range of cardiometabolic risk markers.

A randomised three-period, three-treatment acute crossover trial.

Ten non-obese adults took part in three trials: (1) uninterrupted sitting; (2) seated with 2-min bouts of standing every 20min; and (3) seated with 2-min bouts of light-intensity walking every 20min. Two standardised test drinks (total 80.3 carbohydrate, 50g fat) were provided after an initial 1-h period of uninterrupted sitting. Plasma glucose and blood pressure were assessed hourly to calculate area under the curve. Total cholesterol, HDL, and triglycerides were assessed at baseline and 5-h. ANOVAs were used to explore between-trial differences.

RESULTS:

Glucose area under the curve was lower in the activity-break condition compared to the uninterrupted sitting and standing-break conditions: mean area under the curve 18.5 (95% CI 17, 20), 22.0 (20.5, 23.5), and 22.2 (20.7, 23.7) mmolL/5-h, respectively, p<0.001; no difference between uninterrupted sitting and standing-break conditions (p>0.05). Systolic and diastolic blood pressure area under the curve did not differ significantly between conditions, nor did responses in lipid parameters (p>0.05).

CONCLUSIONS:

This study suggests that interrupting sitting time with frequent brief bouts of light-intensity activity, but not standing, imparts beneficial postprandial responses that may enhance cardiometabolic health. These findings may have importance in the design of effective interventions to reduce cardiometabolic disease risk.

Daily sitting time may be a risk factor for incident cardiovascular disease (CVD); however, this has not yet been extensively studied. Our aim was to study the association of total sitting time with the risk of CVD.

METHODS:

Participants (n=4,516, free of CVD at baseline) from the National FINRISK 2002 Study were followed for fatal and non-fatal CVD using national registers. Participants underwent a health examination and completed questionnaires, including total daily sitting time.

RESULTS:

During a mean follow-up of 8.6 years, 183 incident CVD cases occurred. Sitting on a typical weekday, at baseline, was statistically significantly associated with fatal and non-fatal incident CVD. The hazard ratios (with 95% confidence intervals, CI) for the total amount of sitting were 1.05 (95%CI 1.004-1.10) in the age and gender adjusted model and 1.06 (95% CI 1.01-1.11) in the fully adjusted model, including age, gender, employment status, education, BMI, smoking status, leisure time physical activity, use of vegetables and fruit, alcohol use, blood pressure or its medication, and cholesterol or its medication.

CONCLUSIONS:

Our findings suggest that total amount of daily sitting is a risk factor for incident CVD. More research is needed to understand the etiology of sedentary behavior and CVD.

Sitting time (ST) is associated with cardiovascular disease risk factors whereas breaking ST has been reported to be beneficial for reducing cardiovascular risk.

PURPOSE: To examine the effects of breaking ST on superficial femoral artery (SFA) endothelial function. Hypotheses: 1) prolonged sitting would induce endothelial dysfunction and changes in shear forces and 2) breaking sitting time with brief periods of activity would prevent attenuation in endothelial function.

METHODS: Twelve non-obese men (24.2+/-4.2 yrs.) participated in two randomized 3hr sitting trials. In the sitting (SIT) trial, subjects were seated on a firmly cushioned chair for 3hr without moving their lower extremities. In the breaking sitting time trial (ACT), subjects sat similar to the SIT trial, but walked on a treadmill for five min at 2 miles[middle dot]hr-1 at 30min, 1hr 30min, and 2hr 30min during the sitting interval. SFA flow mediated dilation (FMD) was assessed at baseline, 1hr, 2hr, and 3hr in each trial. Statistical analyses were performed using dependent variables SFA FMD, and shear rates. Significance was set at p<=0.05.

RESULTS: In the SIT trial, there was a significant decline in SFA FMD from baseline to 3hr (baseline: 4.72+/-3.78%, 1hr: 0.52+/-0.85%, 2hr: 1.66+/-1.11%, 3hr: 2.2+/-2.15; p<0.05 by ANOVA) accompanied by a decline in mean shear rate (MSR) and antegrade shear rate (ASR), but no difference in SRauc. By 2-way repeated measures ANOVA, ACT prevented the sitting-induced decline in FMD, (baseline: 4.5+/-2.3%, 1hr: 5.04+/-2.85%, 2hr: 5.28+/-5.05%, 3hr: 6.9+/-4.5%) along with no decline in shear rates.

CONCLUSION: Three hours of sitting resulted in a significant impairment in shear rate and SFA FMD. When light activity breaks were introduced hourly during sitting, the decline in FMD was prevented.

While the lack of muscular activity is a proposed trigger for metabolic alterations, this association has not been directly measured. We examined the associations between electromyography (EMG)-derived muscle inactivity and activity patterns and cardio-metabolic biomarkers in healthy, physically active adults.

METHODS:

Data for this cross-sectional study was pooled from 2 studies (EMG24 and InPact) resulting in a sample of 150 individuals without known chronic diseases and with high quality EMG data (female n=85, male n=65, age=38.8±10.6y, BMI=23.8±3.1kg/m). EMG was measured during 1-3 typical weekdays using shorts measuring quadriceps and hamstring muscle EMG. Muscle inactivity time and muscle moderate-to-vigorous activity were defined as EMG amplitude below that of standing still and above that of walking 5km/h, respectively. Blood pressure index, waist circumference, fasting plasma glucose, HDL cholesterol and triglycerides were measured and long-term exercise behaviors were assessed by questionnaire.

RESULTS:

In a group of physically active participants, muscles were inactive for 65.2±12.9% of the measurement time in an average of 24.1±9.8s periods. As compared to those in the lowest muscle inactivity quartile (<55.5% of measurement time), those in the highest quartile (≥74.8% of measurement time) had 0.32 mmol/l lower HDL cholesterol (P<.05) and 0.30 mmol/l higher triglycerides (P<.05) independent of muscle's moderate-to-vigorous activity.

CONCLUSION:

Clinically significant differences in HDL cholesterol and triglycerides were found favoring participants having low muscle inactivity time, independent of moderate-to-vigorous muscle activity. Even physically active individuals may benefit from light intensity activities which reduce ubiquitous muscle inactivity time.

Periods of prolonged sitting impairs endothelial function in lower limb conduit arteries, which is attenuated with physical activity breaks. The effect of activity breaks on upper limb arteries has not been examined. This study assessed changes in brachial artery endothelial function following either a prolonged sitting period or breaking up this sedentary time by performing sets of callisthenics exercises. Ten healthy participants (6 men) completed 2 conditions in a counterbalanced order: (a) 1-h 26-min sitting, or (b) breaking up this period every 20 min by performing a set of 5 callisthenics exercises. Brachial artery endothelial function was assessed via ultrasound using the flow-mediated dilation (FMD) technique prior to and following each condition, while brachial shear rate (SR) was acquired after each set of callisthenics. There was no significant change in FMD over time (P = 0.09) or between conditions (P = 0.12). Compared to sitting, brachial SR increased following each set of callisthenics, with a significant difference after the third break (Sit: 33.94 ± 12.79 s-1; Callisthenics: 57.16 ± 30.48 s-1, P = 0.02). Alterations in SR in the upper limbs suggest callisthenics may be an effective intervention to break up sedentary time and attenuate the potentially deleterious effects of prolonged sitting on cardiovascular health.

The interaction of prolonged sitting with physical exercise for maintaining health is unclear. We tested the hypothesis that prolonged siting would have a deleterious effect on postprandial plasma lipemia (PPL, postprandial plasma triglycerides) and abolish the ability of an acute exercise bout to attenuate PPL. Seven healthy young men performed three interventions over 5 days (D1-5) in a randomized crossover design with > 1 week between interventions: 1) sitting >14h/d with hypercaloric energy balance (SH), 2) sitting >14h/d with net energy balance (SB), and 3) active walking/standing with net energy balance (WB) and sitting 8.4 h/d. The first high fat tolerance test (HFTT1) was performed on D3 following 2 days of respective interventions. On the evening of D4 subjects ran on a treadmill for 1-h at ~ 67% VO2max, followed by the second HFTT (HFTT2) on D5. Two days of prolonged sitting increased TG AUCI (i.e., incremental area under the curve for TG), irrespective of energy balance, compared to WB (27% in SH, p=0.003 and 26% in SB, p=0.046). Surprisingly, after four days of prolonged sitting (i.e.; SH and SB), the acute exercise on D4 failed to attenuate TG AUCI or increase relative fat oxidation in HFTT2, compared to HFTT1, independent of energy balance. In conclusion, prolonged sitting over several days was sufficient to amplify PPL and to abolish the beneficial effect of acute exercise on lowering PPL and raising fat oxidation, regardless of energy balance. This underscores the importance of limiting sitting time even in people who have exercised.

Merparten av kollegorna på mitt arbete är förhållandevis vältränade och inte överviktiga. Vi sitter ner hela dagarna. Man kan anpassa sin kost efter hur aktiv man är i vardagen samt träna efter eller innan jobbet. Även gå ut och på lunchen.

Det borde inte vara nyheter för någon som av många anses vara en guru på forumet. Hurril är t.ex. programmerare och starkare än alla dina gamla skogshuggaridoler

According to cross-sectional and acute experimental evidence, reducing sitting time should improve cardio-metabolic health risk biomarkers. Furthermore, the improvements obtained may depend on whether sitting is replaced with standing or ambulatory activities. Based on data from the Stand Up Victoria multi-component workplace intervention, we examined this issue using compositional data analysis - a method that can examine and compare all activity changes simultaneously.

METHODS:

Participants receiving the intervention (n=136 ≥0.6 full-time equivalent desk-based workers, 65% women, mean±SD age=44.6 ±9.1 years from seven worksites) were asked to improve whole-of-day activity by standing up, sitting less and moving more. Their changes in the composition of daily waking hours (activPAL-assessed sitting, standing, stepping) were quantified, then tested for associations with concurrent changes in cardio-metabolic risk (CMR) scores and 14 biomarkers concerning body composition, glucose, insulin and lipid metabolism. Analyses were by mixed models, accounting for clustering (3 months, n=105-120; 12 months, n=80-97).

RESULTS:

Sitting reduction was significantly (p<0.05) associated only with lower systolic blood pressure at three months, and with CMR scores, weight, body fat, waist circumference, diastolic blood pressure, and fasting triglycerides, total/HDL cholesterol and insulin at 12 months. Significant differences between standing and stepping were only observed for systolic blood pressure and insulin; both favored stepping. However, replacing sitting with standing was significantly associated only with improvements in CMR scores, while replacing sitting with stepping was significantly associated with CMR scores and six biomarkers.

CONCLUSIONS:

Improvements in several cardio-metabolic health risk biomarkers were significantly associated with sitting reductions that occurred in a workplace intervention. The greatest degree and/or widest range of cardio-metabolic benefits appeared to occur with long-term changes, and when increasing ambulatory activities.

Intressant tråd och frågeställning. Fick själv utmattningssyndrom för fyra år sedan, nästa exakt, och har sedan dess suttit/legat säkert 95% av tiden under långa perioder.

Jag får påstå att jag var väldigt vältränad strax innan jag kraschade, om man jämför med en normal Svensson, och jag får också påstå att jag har faktiska erfarenheter av vad som händer med kroppen när man går från arbete och 5-6 dagars träning i veckan till total grönsak under en längre tid, vilket ger en tydlig bild till skillnad från hypoteser och många forskningsstudier.
