Bad back: Remember when your mother told you to sit up straight or you’d get a bad back? Well she had it all wrong, according to researchers. Sitting in an upright position for long periods places unnecessary strain on the spine, they reported after using a new form of magnetic resonance imaging. This could lead to chronic problems, they warned. The study in Aberdeen sowed a 135-degree body-thigh slouch sitting posture was best, as opposed to a 90-degree posture, which people consider normal.
