Surfade idag runt på jakt efter info om Michael Jackson, gammal fan som jag är av hans odödliga musik. Sökte efter debatter här på forumet och hittade nog en och annan tråd, men jag känner mig ändå skyldig att posta upp detta efter att jag hittat nytt material angående senaste rättegången.
Jag tänker inte gå ut med att säga att jag är övertygad om att Michael Jackson är oskyldig till anklagelserna om övergrepp. Han är definitivt inte helt klar i knoppen (vilken stor konstnär är nu det?) och han har säkert nån form av brist på objektiv förståelse till saker och ting, vilket förmodligen kan klassas som nåt slags psykopati. Emellertid tror jag att han saknar sexualitet. Personligen tror jag faktiskt att det hela bara är så "enkelt" att den förvuxna babyn inte förstår att världen tittar misstänksamt på en medelålders pojke som vill ha sleepovers med sina 35 år yngre polare! Hur som helst, vad jag - eller någon anser - är mer eller mindre irrelevant för vad jag vill ta fram med den här tråden. Vad jag vill diskutera här är massmedias förmåga att samvetslöst manipulera vilken situation som helst.
Under rättegången 2005 överöstes vi konsumenter av feta rubriker om den misstänkte pedofilen. Redan innan domen föll kunde man fatta att den levande legenden skulle bli stämplad för gott. "Innocent until proven guilty" tycks vara bullshit. Vad jag fann idag då jag skummade genom bl.a. wikipedias sidor om rättegången, var att saker och ting inte var så enkla som de verkade. Tydligen har mamman till "offret", Janet Arvizo, samlat på sig stora summor pengar genom såna här falska anklagelser. Jag har hört om något sådant i nyheterna tidigare, ja, men bara i förbifarten. Jämför medias skrik och ståhej om världsstjärnan medan han fortfarande var misstänkt med deras minst sagt taniga utlåtanden om detta! Om dags- och kvällspressen täckt detta efterspel i lika hög grad torde Jacksons namn vara åtminstone LITE renare idag. Men vad är det för inre bild som kvarstår i våra hjärntvättade skallar? Den av den frigivna pedofilen. Är det inte orättvist?

Allegations of juror misconduct
Since the trial was over there has been some controversy over the conduct of jurors during deliberations. Juror #5 (Eleanor Cook) admitted to illegally bringing in a medical text to show "Jackson fit the book's definition of a pedophile to a T.". She also claimed to having winked at Michael Jackson's mother, Katherine Jackson, even though jurors are supposed to avoid all such communication, no matter how innocent. She also claimed that there were three devoted fans of Michael Jackson, who made clear, early on, they would never convict Jackson, (with one referring to him affectionately as "my Michael") while she herself allegedly came in on the jury with the sole intent of convicting Jackson and later writing a book about it. When he was acquitted, her book deal fell through.
Jurors Cook and Hultman have claimed that the juror foreman threatened to remove them from the jury, unless they agreed to acquit Jackson, even though jurors cannot be removed from a jury simply because they don't agree with the others. Both jurors expressed regret about the verdict while still trying to sign book deals and sell T-Shirts about the case. Hultman later tried to get out of a book deal by claiming he had been coerced to sign it just like he had been coerced to acquit Jackson.
Reports also came out that several members of the jury made fun of an alleged victim who burst into tears on the stand while talking about having been tickled by Jackson 15 years ago.

Janet Arvizo, the mother of the accuser, was charged with welfare fraud on August 23, 2005 for allegedly collecting nearly $19,000 in payments while making false claims. During her testimony at the Jackson trial, Arvizo cited the Fifth Amendment against criminal self-incrimination in refusing to answer questions about how she succeeded in illegally obtaining welfare payments while having more than $30,000 in the bank. During the defense case, a Jackson lawyer walked a California Department of Social Services representative through Arvizo's welfare applications, pointing out how she repeatedly failed to disclose, as required by law, assets and financial assistance she was receiving. Among many devastating brickbats tossed at Arvizo during the Jackson trial, the welfare fraud allegations were particularly damaging since they appeared to be backed by government documents (not to mention that Arvizo refused to address them for fear of incriminating herself). She has plead not guilty to all charges brought against her. A status hearing was set for October 28, 2005. In June 2006 the judge said the trial could start within a month.
